Gold PVD Plated Stainless Steel

Gold vermeil or Gold PVD plating? They all claim both are waterproof, but which is actually better?

The Difference Between PVD Plating and Gold Vermeil

Gold vermeil refers to sterling silver that is plated with a thin layer of gold. Most vermeil jewelry available now is created by electroplating the silver with gold, a chemical process that uses an electrical current to bind the two metals together. Gold vermeil is often marketed as waterproof and tarnish free, however, without proper care, the gold can quickly rub off or fade away, leaving behind the silver colour.

PVD stands for Physical Vapor Deposition, and is a vacuum coating process of gold to surgical stainless steel. PVD uses a titanium nitride that provides an extremely durable and long-lasting coating. PVD coating is 10 times thicker than standard gold vermeil, ensuring it never fades or tarnishes. PVD coatings are also more resistant to corrosion from sweat and regular wear than gold plating or gold vermeil. It's perfect for girlies who never take their jewellery off, even for an ocean or pool swim, due to its durability and long-lasting colour. Not only that, but surgical stainless steel is hypoallergenic, making gold PVD the perfect piece for anyone.
